OPPORTUNITY IN THE SUPPLY BUSINESS

1: OPPORTUNITY IN THE SUPPLY BUSINESS

In Nigeria, the supply business is a goldmine — and you don’t need a warehouse or millions to start.

Key Points:

Every sector — construction, health care, offices, schools — needs daily materials.

You can start as a middleman: link buyers to suppliers and make profit from every deal.

All you need is information, trust, and smart sourcing.

Students, workers, or freelancers can do it part-time and still make good money.

Example: A student connects a contractor needing 50 bags of cement → finds a distributor → arranges delivery → earns ₦500–₦1000 per bag.

✅ The secret is knowing who needs what — and who can supply it.

2: MAIN FACTORS AND KEYS OF SUPPLY BUSINESS

To succeed as a small or part-time supplier, focus on these core things:

Information: Know what’s in demand and who needs it.

Supplier Network: Have contacts of wholesalers, dealers, and distributors.

Trust: Clients will only pay you if they believe you’ll deliver.

Speed & Communication: Always respond fast and keep clients updated.

Negotiation Skill: Your profit comes from how well you negotiate with both buyer and seller.

✅ In supply, you’re not just selling goods — you’re selling trust and speed.

3: HOW TO POSITION FOR SUPPLY BUSINESS

Even as a side hustler, you can position yourself as a trusted supplier.

Steps:

Create a simple business identity — name, logo, WhatsApp Business profile.

Make a short catalog or flyer of what you can supply (cement, paint, medical gloves, printing papers, etc.).

Use your WhatsApp status, LinkedIn, and Facebook to post supply opportunities.

Introduce yourself confidently to contractors, school owners, hospital staff, or shop owners.

Keep records of successful deliveries as proof.

Always look neat and professional when meeting clients — perception is everything.

✅ People pay those who look serious and reliable, not necessarily those with big capital.

4: HOW TO SOURCE FOR MATERIALS

You don’t need to own the goods — you just need to know where to get them fast and cheap.

Where to Source:

Major markets: e.g. Mile 12 (food items), Alaba (electronics), Oyingbo (general goods), Ogbunike & Ladipo (auto parts), Building material markets in every city.

Wholesale distributors: search online or visit their warehouses.

Manufacturers: some accept small wholesale purchases.

Online B2B platforms: Jumia Business, Alibaba (for imported goods), TradeDepot, etc.

Existing suppliers: Partner with those already doing it; tell them you’ll bring clients and share profit.

Tips:

Always compare prices from 2–3 sources.

Verify product quality before promising the client.

Negotiate delivery directly from the supplier to the client — so you don’t handle logistics yourself.

✅ Your money is in information — knowing the right person that has what someone needs.

5: HOW TO GET CLIENTS FOR SUPPLY BUSINESS

Your clients are everywhere — you just have to position yourself smartly.

Ways to Get Clients:

Word of Mouth: Tell friends, builders, and business owners what you can supply.

Online Posting: Use WhatsApp, Facebook, and TikTok to post supply updates like “I can get hospital gloves in 24hrs” or “Affordable cement supply.”

Local Networking: Attend church, school, or community events — mention your hustle.

Cold Calls: Visit small companies, schools, or hospitals and introduce your service.

Partnership: Connect with someone who gets regular orders and assist them.

✅ Visibility + reliability = steady clients.

 6: NEGOTIATION FOR SUPPLY BUSINESS

Negotiation determines your profit margin.

How to Negotiate Smartly:

First, find out the current market price.

Add your commission or markup before quoting the client.

Example: Supplier sells at ₦10,000 → You quote ₦10,500 → You earn ₦500 per item.

If it’s a big order, you can agree on a fixed commission amount (e.g. ₦50,000 per deal).

Always confirm price in writing (WhatsApp message or text).

Negotiate delivery time that allows your supplier to meet up.

✅ Negotiate like a bridge between both sides, not a desperate hustler.

7: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PAYMENT

Payment can come in different ways depending on trust level.

Options:

Upfront Payment: Client pays fully before you source (best for new clients).

Part Payment: Client pays 50% upfront, balance after delivery.

Pay After Delivery: For trusted or repeat clients only.

Commission Payment: You connect buyer and supplier, they transact directly, and you collect your agreed commission afterward.

Important:

Always use receipts, invoices, or signed messages as proof of agreement.

Never supply or pay supplier without assurance from client.

Have a trusted account for business transactions.

✅ Protect yourself — even small deals should have small evidence.

8: HOW TO DELIVER / DELIVERY

You don’t need to own a truck — you just need to arrange logistics smartly.

Steps:

Ask the supplier if they can deliver directly (many wholesalers already do).

If not, use trusted local transporters or dispatch riders.

Send pictures or receipts to the client before and after delivery.

Always get a delivery confirmation (signature, photo, or WhatsApp message).

Follow up politely after delivery to confirm satisfaction.

✅ A good delivery experience makes the client call you again.

 9: COMMISSION & PROFIT STRUCTURE

As a side hustler, your profit usually comes in two main ways:

1. Commission Per Product

You earn ₦X per unit supplied.

Example: ₦300 per bag of cement × 100 bags = ₦30,000 profit.

2. Agreed Total Commission

You and the supplier/client agree on one figure per deal.

Example: ₦50,000 for connecting a ₦1 million supply.

Tips:

Keep your profit reasonable — don’t overcharge; it kills repeat business.

Be transparent with suppliers and clients; trust brings more deals.

✅ Small margins done consistently can become a steady income stream.
